LACA at Los Angeles Art Book Fair

On the occasion of the 2015 Los Angeles Art Book Fair, Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (LACA) proposes an intervention to the standard commerce and exchange environment of the fair by allowing their booth to become an inventory and display of selected archival materials by a group of artists, writers, a curator, and an arts organization. This group will hold individual office hours while their presentation is either selected from the LACA archives or from their own repositories which will in turn be available to view while passing the booth.

These objects are unfinished projects, studio ephemera, performance ephemera, documentation, artist books, trash, source material and notes. The materials aid insight into process. The project looks critically at archives as spaces that are difficult to access and are reserved for specific authorities. Furthermore, by bringing these materials into the fair it opens the conversation as to what objects are deemed worth preserving.
