A pre-release listening party for new desert music by Chris Kallmyer, Julia Holter, and Lucky Dragons on Populist Records. Come buy an advance copy, have a beer, and check out a performance by Kallmyer featuring images of his time living in the ghost town, Rhyolite.
The LP centers around a meditative recording of Chris Kallmyer's remote installation in Rhyolite, NV: a wind-activated sound piece with 200 found bottles known to be left by gold miners. Lucky Dragons and Julia Holter created responses to these recordings featuring WPA era songs and sonic investigations of the desert regions surrounding Los Angeles. The record was designed by Becca Lofchie and will be released on Populist Records on May 13.
