"Material is a Los Angeles-based journal, co-founded in june 2007 by Artists Kim Schoen and Ginny Cook. We publish texts by visual artists whose interest in language extends beyond the anticipated art object or product. We are interested in the relationship of language to a visual practice-the use of writing to develop ideas, perform critical investigations, and detail observations on art and life. In addition to the annual publication of the journal, we also host 'studio visits' -informal, convivial dialogues among artists and colleagues in our studio space-and other events and discussions to strengthen the community of artists we work within and are inspired by." -Material 2
