Project X Forum 2: FAR Bazaar
With Lynne Berman, Eli Pulsinelli, and Carrie Ungerman
Join us for the second in a series of public forums investigating the exhibitions Project X produced in the 90s, with a focus on the conditions facing Los Angeles artists at that time, and the way they shaped artist-run organizations, alternative exhibitions and publications. What can the nineties tell us about now?
FAR Bazaar at the Federal Building was the first of three large-scale exhibitions facilitated by FAR (Foundation for Art Resources). Occupying The Old Federal Reserve Bank Building in downtown LA for three weeks in December of 1992, Project X was among one of over 300 artist and artists groups chosen to take part in this “alternative art fair” exhibition. Over 2000 people attended the opening.
Lynne Berman and Carrie Ungerman were two of the organizing artists on FAR’s Board. For Project X Forum 2, they’ll discuss the exhibition and its undertaking, in conversation with Eli Pulsinelli, X-TRA Executive Editor and former FAR Board Member.
FAR Bazaar participants include: ANTI (Printed) MATTER [Alicia Beach, Diane Bromberg, Tsia Carson, Benjamin Craig, John Friend, Josh Hartley, Douglas Lloyd, Laura Owens, David L. Weiner, Colin Zaug], Food House [Kevin Appel, Michael Arata, John Elder, Antonio Gonella, Ed Harper, Kathleen Johnson, James Richards, Jack Richardson, Holly Wilder], Andrea Bowers, Eli Pulsinelli, and Project X [Miyoshi Barosh, Stephen Berens, Elizabeth Bryant, Jan Tumlir].
