Reading Materials is an ongoing collaborative publication between myself and Max Spitzer consisting solely of sculpture materials lists.
Reading Materials, is a collection of sculptor’s materials lists. They are printed one-per-page without any accompanying information or imagery (apart from the artist’s names and works titles for attribution.) Max and I began our research for this project during our time as sculptors in the MFA program at Carnegie Mellon University. This project grew naturally out of our conversations about the ways artists are obligated to articulate their materials, and how contemporary materials lists often provide a deeper or more playful meaning to the work at hand. Essentially, Reading Materials is a careful collaborative archivization of these lists meant to generate a discussion on the way words and objects collaborate to create meaning.
