This limited edition paper necklace charm by the artist duo Women’s History Museum was produced as the 2024 NY Art Book Fair’s Opening Night Ticket Edition.
Women’s History Museum is a multisensory project started in 2015 bya rtists Amanda McGowan and Mattie Barringer. In February, they staged their most recent fashion show, “Enfer” (Hell" in French), in the concrete shell of a building in the Financial District in Manhattan. Working across textile and time, the artists categorically complicate what clothing, costume, and methods of recording history can do. In an act of transubstantiation for the NYABF 2024 ticket edition, Women’s History Museum transformed an enamel charm into a paper one. The charm references an acrylic peep-show booth made for their 2020 show, SEZX, which, in turn, referenced “girlie” vintage matchbooks advertising burlesque and strip clubs.
