New Wight Biennial

The UCLA Department of Art New Wight Biennial is an exhibition curated by the Department of Art graduate students and features graduate students from art programs around the world. The New Wight Biennial 2018: We, Activeast will bring together East Asian artists working in performance, video, writing, and installation to consider how art and culture can establish acts of socio-political resistance. As the contemporary East Asian countries share their values of activism through collective gatherings and political changes, curators Jae Hwan Lim (UCLA Department of Art M.F.A. candidate in interdisciplinary studio, degree expected 2020) and Hailey Loman (UCLA Department of Art M.F.A. candidate in interdisciplinary studio, degree expected 2020) present a forum for open dialogue about equality, oppression, censorship, and history. The aim of the exhibition is to instigate cross-pollination between artists and participants as well as to demonstrate an urgency of universalism.

This event is presented by the UCLA Department of Art
