Advanced Googling It

Advanced Googling It:
A workshop on digital research techniques

August, 15, 2021
7-8:30 PM
*This is an in person event

Access to information is essential for a well-functioning democracy but the tools we often rely on to find information are built for advertisers, not for us. We are told to “Google it” without being taught how to Google it or when Google is not the right tool for it. In this workshop, we will start with what they don’t tell you about search then learn different digital research techniques that get information beyond the first page of Google results such as

  • Alternative search tools
  • Search operators & complex queries
  • No-code web-crawling with octoparse
  • Exploring large collections with Pinpoint

Participation is open to anyone including guerrilla journalists, artists, critically engaged researchers, and students of all levels.
