LACA is pleased to present DRAWINGS DRAWINGS, a new artist book by Joshua Abelow. The book is composed of pencil drawings created over a period of thirteen years. To produce each drawing, Abelow always uses a 6B pencil on cream-colored 30 x 22 inch paper. This simple format provides a consistent material framework for the artist to push his idea-based agenda. Each drawing appears in chronological order and, as the title of the book suggests, each drawing is repeated. Abelow often uses reproductions of artworks by other artists as a starting point. The attentive viewer will notice many references to the work of Francis Picabia, H.C. Westerman, and René Magritte. Abelow’s bizarre and often self-deprecating self-portraits appear throughout.
Please join us Sunday, April 22 2-5 PM. Books will be available for sale. Cash and card are welcome.
DRAWINGS DRAWINGS is dedicated to the memory of the artist’s father, Ralph Lewis Abelow (1949-2017).
