i want to climb inside every word and lick the salty neck of each letter
July 13, 1-3pm

REDCAT and Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (LACA) are thrilled to share a writing workshop led by artist Kameelah Janan Rasheed. In this workshop, participants will write in the shape of their surroundings, and build language inflected by objects, architectures, their environments, and their anecdotal memory of the past.

Embracing the sensorial, this workshop is created for people with varying relationships to writing, poetry, and archiving. i want to climb inside every word and lick the salty neck of each letter looks to experiment with written fragments, mood, games, and ephemera from your own archive.

Participants will also be invited to work collaboratively and create a one page book of scores to contribute to LACA and take home.

LACA is hosting this off-site program to develop fragmentary archives with Rasheed, and propose that our narratives can be sensorial, splintered, and remade. We can intervene on the boundaries and limitations of language that try to explain our artistic lives. This project is held in conjunction with Rasheed’s current exhibition at REDCAT, i want to climb inside every word and lick the salty neck of each letter. Visit the exhibition through August 11, 2024, Wed-Sun 12pm-6pm.

*Please bring something you have previously written, something found, or an object you wish to write about.

The workshop is free. Join us in person at LACA (709 N. Hill Street, #104-108). July 13th, 1-3pm.
