The Dividual explores an emergent subjectivity divided from itself and always-already a part of something. Since antiquity, the Individual (άτομο or átomo in Greek, individuum in Latin) has been defined philosophically, legally, and psychologically as an entity that is distinctively separate from the rest and indivisible from itself. In many societies, the individual is perceived as an objective subjectivity. As the relations and social institutions that constitute the individual and those that are formed around it change, there have been throughout history struggles around the gender, class, race, age, ethnicity, and species of those recognized as individuals.

The Cloud doesn’t love you

The Cloud doesn’t love you looks at digital storage and how artists can use it to meet their needs. Led by Los Angeles-based artist, Christopher Richmond, the lab addresses strategies for artists in different disciplines, from painting to photography to video. Other topics will include the pros and cons of specific storage options, including the Cloud, external drives, optical disc, and tape. The lab will be in a conversational format, and attendees are encouraged to ask questions about their unique digital storage needs during the presentation.

In presenting Erik Moskowitz and Amanda Trager’s new Song-Portrait project, the event will connect surprising adjacencies between Nova Scotia, Los Angeles, Mexico, Jamaica and Africa through storytelling and song.
